Born in France in 1956, Christophe Salembier, grew up in an artistic atmosphere: his grandfather was a poet and his father an architect. As a child he was encouraged to develop his artistic talents and at the age of 12 he received first prize in a nationwide drawing contest.

Continuing his art education, the young Salembier attended several art schools in France and abroad. At the age of 20, in 1976, Salembier won first prize for the "Postal Stamp" competition in Pas de Calais.

In 1977, he again won first prize for a competition of "Posters for the Road" sponsored by the French government and in 1980 won the second prize for "Les Jeunes Artistes de France."

From 1976 to 1982 Salembier was commissioned to create murals in private dwellings and in national institutions.

Salembier demands total solitude to be able to paint. Alone, in his studio, he gathers the drawings and notes he took from the outside world and reworks them into his own vision of the universe.
